In short: I finished the Google Project Management Professional Certificate. Here is what the program actually covers and why I took it.
What the program covers
The certificate walks through the whole project management process: initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and control, and closing a project out. It is a mix of online lectures, interactive exercises and real case studies, and it covers the standard methodologies and tools.
The part I did not expect to get as much airtime was the soft skills. Communication, stakeholder management, working with a team. Those turn out to be most of the job.
Why I took it
I am moving into this field on the industry side. I have a background in science and engineering, plus project coordination and years in a research lab, so the pieces were already there. The program gave me the vocabulary and the structure to put around them.
